Old 97s Still One of the Best Live Bands in the Business

A couple of episodes back on Country & Cold Cans, I reviewed my 7th year at American Aquarium's annual "Roadtrip to Raleigh" at Lincoln Theater. There are always great bands that open the shows during this weekend. Some I know, some I don't. However, when I saw Old 97s was on the bill for Night 1 at RTR, I was--as the kids say--hype. They've been a favorite of mine for a long time and have always been great live in concert. Not to mention (but I will) that frontman Rhett Miller was the first artist to agree to come on the podcast a couple years ago.

Thursday night at "Roadtrip", the Old 97s killed it. Their energy is unmatched and they can command a crowd. From "Doreen" to "Barrier Reef", they hit almost all of the fan favorites. Though I think I was most excited to hear "Big Brown Eyes." That song is flat out banger. With the crowd singing along, it was electric. The way everyone screams "I got issues...YEAH. Like I miss you...YEAH" is always a highlight for me. I can confirm the Old 97s are still one of the best live bands in the business.
